Types of Poker games

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

As the game has grown and evolved over time, there are several types of poker games and several variations. One of the most popular games played is the Texas Holdem, some people make reference to the Texas Holdem chip. It can be played with anywhere from two to ten players, it is very easy to learn and fast paced. You can take a look at the rise of texas holdem to get a history of the game.

The Seven Card Stud is another highly popular poker game, anywhere from two to eight players can play. The game is generally played with cards at poker tables, with about five betting rounds. Seven Card Stud Hi Lo is a variant of the game with the same basic rules, but each player will create the lowest or highest value hand by using any combination of five of their seven cards.

Caribbean Stud Poker is played a little differently than the games above, all of the players play against the casino, who acts as the dealer. In order to win, you will have to beat the dealer’s hand, which could really make you hold onto each and every poker chip.

Poker - hobby, game or source of revenue

I was reading a post about how more and more teenagers are getting involved or rather addicted to gambling at a very early age. And started wondering how many people like the game of poker for recreational purposes vs playing for extra income.

I recognize there is always a interest in making some extra cash but how seriously is this option pursued by those who play the game. Does it become their lively hood or do they take it in proper perspective and treat the game as entertainment.

I plan on doing some digging and posting more on this topic soon.

Nguyen wins H.O.R.S.E

How would like to be one of these 2 guys?

Nguyen, a seasoned veteran at poker with 4 gold bracelets, wins $2 million dollars by beating out a New Jersey local 23-year-old Michael DeMichele in H.O.R.S.E., a rotating-game tournament that cost $50,000 to enter.
Although No-Limit Texas Hold-’em is the most popular poker game. It’s the game played in the WSOP main event and on numerous television shows. HORSE is widely known in poker circles as the “Players Championship,” due to the variety of skills required to win.
During a H.O.R.S.E. tournament, which stands for five games of poker played in rotation—Hold ‘em, Omaha, Razz, Stud and Eight or Better—tests the all-around player more than the No Limit Hold ‘em game, which was born in Texas and has become the most popular poker game worldwide.
More specifically Hold’em is when players are dealt two cards and there are five community cards; then you have Omaha High, where players are dealt four cards with three community cards; Razz, is a game where the player receives seven cards and the worst combination of five cards wins; For Seven-Card Stud, in each player receives seven cards and the best five-card combination wins; an then there is Eight or Better, a combination of the last two games, the pot is split between the best five-card combination and the worst, while the worst hand cannot have any card higher than an eight.
